Location and route planning

When you choose Find a walk, your precise starting location, selected duration and estimated pace are sent over HTTPS to our route service hosted by Render in Singapore. Mapbox temporary reverse geocoding identifies the country. Mapbox Directions provides walking routes in South Korea and all other enabled countries. Mapbox receives the starting point, nearby search waypoints and estimated walking speed. We do not forward your device IP address or any account, installation or advertising identifier to Mapbox. Walking history and route ranking stay on your device. Just walk does not request a recommendation or send location to our route service, although map requests still occur.

GPS records and photos stay on your device

During an active walk, the app records accepted GPS positions, time and distance in its private local database, including while the screen is locked when the operating system allows it. Tracking stops when you end the walk. Your recorded GPS history and photos are not uploaded to our route server. No account is required. There is no cloud sync; backup exclusions are configured. The app uses operating-system storage protection and does not add a separate database-encryption layer.

What is sent to service providers

OpenFreeMap provides map tiles using OpenStreetMap/OpenMapTiles data. Tile requests reveal an IP address and the geographic area being viewed. Render and map providers process connection metadata under their policies. Mapbox may process API request data to deliver, secure, support and improve its services, including de-identified aggregate statistics; this is separate from our app, which has no analytics SDK. Our route application does not log request bodies, precise coordinates or API keys. It holds IP rate-limit counters in memory with a one-minute validity period; expired entries are removed on the next request. No route history database is kept on the server. Infrastructure providers manage their own operational logs; their retention periods may differ from the app’s memory lifetime. Older development clients may use openrouteservice through a legacy endpoint; the current store build uses Mapbox only for recommendations and makes no TMAP requests.

How long information is retained

Your independently recorded GPS sessions and selected photo drafts remain locally until you delete them or remove the app. Mapbox navigation results are used only in memory and are not saved to the local session database. Recommendations left by older TMAP development builds expire within 23 hours and are removed from completed sessions; expired pending recommendations are removed when next loaded or saved. Independently recorded GPS data is preserved. Map tiles may be cached temporarily. OpenFreeMap describes anonymized operational logs and security IP logs retained for up to 30 days. Mapbox describes IP log retention of 30 days, with possible extensions for security or legal investigations; our server proxy means Mapbox receives the server IP. Other provider data retention follows their linked policies. We do not describe all off-device processing as ephemeral. Temporary app-owned sharing images are removed after 24 hours when the app next opens. Images saved in your photo library or shared elsewhere follow those destinations’ retention.

Optional photos and sharing

Camera permission is requested when you choose to take a photo. You can instead use the system photo picker. Selected images are re-encoded without EXIF metadata and stored in the app’s private directory. Save photo writes your rendered image to your library after permission; Share opens the operating system’s share sheet, where you select the destination. The image includes the selected photo, actual GPS trace, distance, elapsed time and logo. Provider recommendations are not included in the exported image. Picker caches may be managed separately by the operating system.

Your choices and privacy requests

Location, camera and photo access can be revoked in device Settings. Without location, recommendations and GPS recording cannot work. Optional photo access is not required for a walk. Tap the logo on Home, then Delete all walking data, to remove local sessions, photo drafts and app-owned temporary exports. Previously exported images must be deleted separately. Because there is no account or server-held walk history, we cannot remotely retrieve or delete the device’s database. Email the contact above to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection or information about transfers, subject to applicable law. We will explain what information we hold and respond within applicable time limits. You may contact your local data-protection authority.

International processing

Route requests can be processed outside your country: our route server is in Singapore, and routing, hosting and map providers operate international infrastructure. Providers process data for requested routes and maps, reliability, security and service improvement as described above. Mapbox processes data in the United States and may use other locations through its infrastructure and staff. Provider privacy and data-protection terms describe their international-processing arrangements. Contact us for information about the arrangements applicable to your request. You can stop these transmissions by not requesting routes or maps and by revoking location access.

Other data and purchases

walkthis includes no advertising or analytics SDK and does not sell personal information or use it for cross-app tracking. It does not read contacts, health records or step counts. Android notifications make an active walking service visible and are not marketing messages. App purchases are processed by Apple or Google; the app does not receive payment-card details. If you email us, your email and message are used to answer your request and retained only as needed for support and applicable obligations. The app is a general-audience walking utility, not a service directed at children.

Service providers and updates

Provider information: Render privacy, Mapbox privacy, OpenFreeMap, and openrouteservice (legacy development clients). Material changes will be reflected here and in the app’s store disclosures. The effective date above identifies this version.
